Extended Day Program
2007/2008

Martin County Schools Department of Exceptional Student Education and Student Services is pleased to provide public school age child (K-5) care programs for the benefit and convenience of our Martin County families.  The Extended Day programs at each elementary school site are totally supported from tuition of the students enrolled.  The Extended day program is independent of all Martin County School District programs for primary instruction.

The purpose of the Martin County School District's Extended Day Program is to provide a structured recreational and educational program which meets the fundamental need for growth and development common to all children.  Our program hemps meet these needs by creating and environment that provides positive reinforcement and promotes self-worth.

Our Direction
Each member of the Extended Day staff is committed to:

  • Provide a warm, caring atmosphere for each child.
  • Provide an environment that encourages each child to explore and experience learning in a fun way
  • Motivate the child to reach his/her fullest potential and develop a positive self-concept.
  • Nurture each child's ability to relate to others to appreciate individual differences and improve self-control.
  • Motivate each child to have a sense of positive standard and values by which to live.
  • Provide support for working parents to complement a child's home and school environment.

Eligibility
Childcare is available to all Martin County elementary school children enrolled in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade.

Enrollment
To enroll your child/children in the Extended Day program, you must complete the following forms:

  • Extended Day Registration Form
  • Certification of school entry medical examination performed within twelve (12) months prior to enrollment to the program.
  • All children must have on file certification of immunization as required by Martin County School Board policy.

All forms, a one week deposit, and the first week of tuition must be submitted prior to attendance.

School Year Program
The children in Extended Day are given a variety of "hands-on" experience with numerous choices available.  Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Creative Arts & Crafts
  • Drama and Imaginative Play
  • Music and Dance
  • Communication Skills

  • Cooperative Games
  • Science and Health Activities
  • Homework Club
  • Field Trips
  • Sports and Outdoor Recreation

Fees
(Special Notice:  All fess must be paid by check or money order.)

School Year Rates:

  • Registration - $7.00
  • Materials - $25.00
  • After School Part Time (3 days) - $21.00
  • After School Full Time (5 days) - $30.00
  • Before School (daily rate) - $2.00
  • Emergency (drop-in day) - $10.00
  • Full Day - $16.00

A deposit equal to the fee for one week (based on the participant's schedule) will be due at registration.

  • Extra fees may be charged for special events or classes
  • Sibling discounts (tuition only): 10% for two children, 20% for three children, and 40% for four children
  • Before school program not available at all sites
  • Upon registering your child(ren), you must choose a Full time, Part time, or Drop In slot (billing method) for your child(ren).  Due to proper commitments for staffing, field trip costs and snacks, billing methods cannot be changed.

Summer Program
The summer program begins the first full week after the school year ends.  Due to a reduction in summer enrollment not all schools will be open.  Contact your site manager for summer site selections.

Summer Program Rates:

  • Registration (if not previously registered) - $7.00
  • Materials - $10.00
  • Full Week - $80.00
  • Daily - $16.00

Late Payment Fee
A Fee of $5.00 will be charged if payment has not been received by Wednesday prior to the week of attendance.

Late Pickup
Failure to pick up a child at the designated closing time will result in a $1.00 per minute fee fore the first fifteen minutes and $5.00 for each additional fifteen minutes thereafter.  The Extended Day program reserves the right to notify and/or turn over children who are being picked up habitually or excessively late to the proper authorities.

Payment
All payments for the program will be made on a weekly basis.  Payment must be by check or money order.  No cash payment will be accepted.  All payments must be enclosed in the appropriate payment envelope.  This envelope must be returned to the school site no later than closing time each Wednesday.  A $5.00 late fee will be assessed for envelopes received after Wednesday's closing.

Credit
There will be absolutely no credit extended.  Individuals/families with an account balance will not be scheduled.*

Tax Information
Due to periodic computer purging of previous school year financial information, we are unable to provide you with a yearly printout of your payments.  Please keep track of your payments for tax purposes.

Absences
There will be no credit given for day absent.

Returned Check Policy
Checks returned for insufficient funds must be paid with a cashier's check or money order within 10 days of written notification.  Failure to comply with this policy will result in suspension of services.

Change of Student Schedule
Please notify the front office and the Extended Day manager in writing of any change in your child's prearranged after school schedule. When making a change to your child's schedule you are responsible for notifying your child's classroom teacher by means of a written note signed by a parent (School Policy).  Also, you must notify the Extended Day office by means of fax or by leaving a message on our answering machine.  (We prefer a faxed, signed note, if possible)  Both steps are necessary to insure that your child will be properly routed to Extended Day.

Drop-In Children
Drop-in children will not be accepted on days when school is not open (full days).  Children must be scheduled one (1) week in advance to insure adequate staff ratio and adequate seating on busses for field trips.  Children may be added on regular school days for emergency reasons only.

Change of Information
It is extremely important that you notify the site manager of any changes in home address, phone number or place of employment.  Emergency phone numbers must be kept current.  It is also important to notify the site manager of any changes in your child's physical, social or emotional well being.

Discipline
Discipline in the Extended Day Program shall be consistent with standards outlined in the Martin Count School Board Student Conduct and Discipline Code.  Additional regulations include immediate next day suspension for the following:

  • Fighting
  • Physical or verbal abuse of staff
  • Stealing
  • Destruction of property
  • Running away from staff
  • Persistent leaving group without permission

Please not that the length of the suspension will be determined by the seriousness of the infraction.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Policy

To assure that your child is safe and fully supervised while in the Extended Day program, the following procedure will be enforced.

  • Parent will sign in their child upon arrival (Full days and a.m. program)
  • Parent will sign out their child upon departure (please use full signature and indicate time of dismissal)
  • Only those individuals who are authorized in writing by the parent/legal guardian are permitted to pick up a child.  All designated people must be able to show picture identification upon request.
  • All children must be picked up by the announced closing time.  There will be a $1.00 per minute late fee charged after closing.

Emergency School Closing
In the event that the school closes for an emergency, the Extended Day program will also be closed.  Stay tuned to local radio stations for announcements of school closings and make arrangements for pick-up as soon as possible.

Extended Day will be closed for the following holidays:

  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Friday after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Eve (observed)
  • Christmas Day (observed)
  • News Year's Eve (observed)
  • New Year's Day (observed)
  • Martin Luther King Day
  • Memorial Day

Medication
Should a child require prescription medicine during the Extended Day program, a medical authorization form must be on file with the site manager prior to the administering of any drug.  The doctor prescribing the medicine must sign the authorization form.  All prescription drugs must remain in their original container with correct dose indicated on the label.  Extended Day personnel are not permitted to administer nor are children permitted to bring over-the-counter drugs sent from home.  The first dosage of any new medication shall not be administered during school hours due to the possibility of an allergic reaction.  Extended Day medication must be separate form the clinic's medication.  Parents must provide a recent photograph of their child to attach to the medication record. (form #135).

School Insurance
The Extended Day program will provide supplemental accident insurance to all registered students at no additional cost.  This plan will cover your child/children during the Extended Day program only.

Snacks
An appropriate after school snack will be provided.  On full days, Extended Day will provide a morning drink and afternoon snack.  However, parents must provide lunch and a drink.  Please report any food allergies or special dietary needs to the site manager.
